Accident Reconstruction
Visibility Studies
Visibility studies are performed when there is some question about
whether a particular roadway
hazard that caused or contributed to a collision was or should have been
visible to the driver of
the vehicle. The engineers who conduct a visibility study do the best
possible recreation of the
environment that was in place at the time of the incident. To do this,
they need to know as much
as possible about that environment, including lunar phase, weather, time
of day/night, presence
of snow on or near the roadway, and ambient lighting. By using this
information, and combining
it with baseline photographs taken under similar conditions, a
visibility analysis can be
conducted.
